The Border Equestrian Club is excited to welcome young equestrians from all over the Eastern Cape to compete for provincial titles in Dressage, Equitation, and Showjumping.

The event coincides with the very exciting East London Agricultural Show, making for an exciting atmosphere with tents, crowds and funfairs.

All the noise and unusual activities can be scary for the horses, and this definitely adds a level of difficulty for the riders as they deal with outside distractions while trying to get their horse around a Showjumping track, or keep them calm during their Equitation or Dressage tests.

The Border Equestrian Club has hosted the Horse Section of this show for decades, and it is still as exhilarating as it was back in the day. It’s a showcase of the Equestrian sport in our area, and a great opportunity for the public to watch horses and riders of all levels competing.

The show kicks off with Equitation on Thursday afternoon (27 April 2023), and continues until Sunday (30th April) . The arenas will be busy from 8:30/9 every morning and end at around 3 to 4:30 in the afternoons. The provincial championship classes are only for the “Youth” age groups under 18, but we will also have over 18s competing at the show (just not in the EC Champs).

The BEC clubhouse is open to the public during the show, so pop in early for our kitchen’s famous egg & bacon rolls, or later for a drink at our pub in our clubhouse. The stretch tent next to the clubhouse will host some awesome stall holders, including delicious, authentic Indian food, Milkylane & Steers, Crossways Hardware and Feeds, Neem products by Traci, and more.

An event of this size requires dedicated organisers, volunteers, officials, sponsors, and of course – competitors. Our club is incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed to this show in one way or another.

It is expensive to enter a show, let alone the extra expenses of traveling, accommodation and time off work. So to the riders who are making these sacrifices, we see you and we appreciate you choosing this show. We hope to make it one to enjoy and remember fondly.

To our many sponsors who have donated money, vouchers, prizes and goodie bag gifts, you have added immense value to our club and this sport. It’s exciting to imagine all the smiles you will bring to this week’s competitors.

We aim to provide a platform for our sponsors that creates awareness and promotes them through various channels – including social media, web, email, print and through announcements over the microphone.

This is not a show to be missed and we expect our grandstands to be overflowing! Come and support our brave riders and their special horses.
